  ABOUT US

At A.W.E.mazing, we are developing an innovative Autism Early Childcare Program for children from birth to five years, as well as a specialized after-school autism gym program for elementary-aged children. Our curriculum emphasizes STEAM and robotics, creating a unique, enriching environment that is specifically tailored for children diagnosed with autism or exhibiting signs of the disorder.

Our programs stand out as the only after-school option specifically designed for children with autism, including support for those who have faced expulsion due to behavior linked to their disabilities. By offering weekday services and personalized resources, we strive to provide invaluable support for individuals with autism and their families. We are a vibrant, inclusive community dedicated to empowering children with autism and fostering meaningful growth for both them and their families.

OUR MISSION

Our mission is to create an inclusive, nurturing environment where autistic children can thrive, grow, and realize their full potential. By offering comprehensive resources and fostering a supportive community, we aim to celebrate each child's unique strengths, interests, and abilities. Our dedicated team of professionals is committed to guiding each individual’s personal journey, promoting growth, acceptance, and belonging for them and their families.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

In Georgia, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) affects approximately 1 in 64 births, with a prevalence of 1 in 39 among boys and 1 in 181 among girls. Here are some critical statistics and insights on ASD among young children...

ASD Diagnosis Rates:

  • Early Diagnosis Trends: Children who were four years old in 2020 were 1.4 times more likely to be diagnosed with ASD or receive an ASD-related special education classification by age 48 months than children who were eight years old in the same year.

  • Statewide Screenings: Over 3,500 children between the ages of 18 and 24 months have been screened for ASD across Georgia using the MCHAT-R/F tool, a standardized early screening instrument.

Current Gaps in Services:

  • Limited Early Childhood Centers: Georgia has only two Autism Early Childhood Centers, each with a waitlist of one to five years, depending on the child's age.

  • Lack of Afterschool Programs: In areas such as Decatur, Jonesboro, and Henry County, there are no specialized afterschool programs for children with ASD. This shortage forces many families to make difficult choices about employment and childcare.

Educational System Challenges

Children with ASD are often displaced from early childhood and afterschool programs due to a lack of autism-specific support services and staff training. As a result, many parents face the dilemma of either leaving their jobs or pursuing flexible work to be available for their children’s needs.

A.W.E.mazing Enrichment Center: Meeting a Critical Need

The A.W.E.mazing Enrichment Center is committed to addressing these gaps by establishing a dedicated afterschool program for children with autism and other learning disabilities. This initiative offers families a sustainable solution where children are supported in an autism-friendly environment, providing parents with a dependable, understanding support system for their children’s growth and education.
